Jay Swift at stone saw

BFA in Sculpture, Kutztown University, 1978

A sculptor and craftsman with a love for stone and for the traditional techniques that have been used to work it for centuries, Jay Swift has developed an intrinsic understanding of this enduring material in a career spanning over 40 years. In the early 80’s, Jay managed a stone yard in Long Island City, where he also maintained a sculpture studio. Among other responsibilities, he traveled in Italy to select stone for the New York City market.

When he founded Bedrock, Jay was working with architects and designers on high-end residential and commercial projects in Manhattan, gaining valuable experience in solving problems and satisfying discerning clients. Recognized by professionals and homeowners alike for his expertise and sound advice about stone and its applications, as well as for the beauty of his finished work, Jay developed a reputation for excellence with the most difficult projects. Over time Jay has taken on more responsibility for designing directly for clients. In 1997 Jay moved Bedrock to the Berkshire hills of western Massachusetts and continues to serve clients throughout the Northeast.
